Solar park Veendam is the first project that we completed in the Netherlands. Chint Solar/Astronergy’s engagement began by acquiring the development in the mid-development stage in December 2016. From that moment forward, we actively cooperated with the municipality of Veendam, the province of Groningen and other local organizations to ensure that the park meets all legal requirements.

During the first half of 2017, all technical and financial preparations were completed. The undeveloped contaminated soil was unsuitable for agricultural use and has found a new purpose in solar energy.

The park was built by Golbeck Solar, a company that specializes in solar parks. Construction started on September 4, 2017, and proceeded at an impressive pace to assemble all 57,288 solar panels and connect them to the Enexis Veendam power station, which is situated across from the project site on the opposite side of the canal, by December 29, 2017. During the course of 2018, energy supplier Eneco offered residents the opportunity to share in the proceeds.
