On July 12, Schönermark solar park in eastern Germany welcomed more than 80 visitors for an Open Day. The event provided local residents, project partners and other guests with the opportunity to gain first-hand insights into large-scale solar energy.
More than 80 interested visitors attended the event. Guided golf cart tours through the park gave visitors a close-up view of the site’s technology and scale. Experts were on hand to answer questions about the project and explain how renewable electricity is generated and fed into the grid. A dedicated crafting activity offered entertainment for children, while food and refreshments were provided throughout the day.
The solar park has been operational since December 2024 and contributes clean electricity to the grid with an installed capacity of 80 MWp. Completed within 11 months, the project demonstrates what efficient collaboration in planning and execution can achieve.

Events like the Open Day strengthen dialogue between renewable energy projects and the communities in which they are located, contributing to greater transparency and understanding of the energy transition.

Schönermark as a milestone project in Germany
With its installed capacity of 80 MWp, the solar park marks the largest project to date for Chint Solar Europe in Germany.
“Schönermark is a real highlight for us – not just on paper, but something we wanted to make a tangible experience together with the community”, says Maike Thron, Country Manager Germany.
She also points out that the site offers ideal conditions for large-scale solar energy: “It is spacious, flat and well-suited for this form of sustainable land use. We are grateful for the openness and support shown by the municipality throughout the development process.”
