Chint Solar starts construction of its first BESS project in Weißenfels, Germany

20 May 2026

Chint Solar Europe (“Chint”), a leading European player active in project development, financing, realization and operation of renewable energy projects, is progressing the construction of its first battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Germany.

Construction started in February and the commissioning with the local grid operator is expected later in May. The battery storage park is located in Weißenfels and marks a key milestone for the company’s strategic transition towards integrated renewable energy solutions in the German and European markets.

The battery storage system has a capacity of 40 MWh and an output of 12 MW. The site benefits from its proximity to a substation, providing optimal conditions for grid integration and efficient operation. A second construction phase is already planned for 2027, which will increase the site’s capacity by 12 MW / 40 MWh. With this project, Chint is taking a step in strengthening grid stability and supporting the further integration of renewable energy into the grid.

The Weißenfels project represents the first step in Chint’s comprehensive battery storage strategy for the German market. The company is currently developing a pipeline of over 40 BESS projects,  with planned commissioning between 2026 and 2030. Chint is rolling out its battery storage strategy across Europe, with the development of stand-alone and co-located battery energy storage systems and the hybridization of existing photovoltaic assets.

In addition to project development, Chint will also act as EPC contractor (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) for its own BESS projects and provide EPC services to third parties.

The Weißenfels project therefore represents more than a single milestone, marking the beginning of the company’s strategic transition from a PV-focused developer and EPC contractor to a developer of integrated energy solutions.
