Solar park Ommelanderwijk, located between Veendam and Nieuwe Pekela in the province of Groningen, was commissioned in October 2020. The former, polluted industrial site was unusable for farmers and was therefore extensively remediated prior to the construction of the solar park. The solar field has a total of 14,229 solar panels, half of which are monofacial (one-sided) and the other half bifacial (two-sided). This gives Chint Solar the opportunity to test the bifacial solar panels and prove the advantages of these panels over monofacial panels in an existing situation in the Netherlands.

The solar park – initiated by PowerField – was developed and realized by Chint Solar. Chint Solar also developed the grid connection. In the implementation phase, Chint Solar acted as the main EPC contractor, coordinated various contractors, and was responsible for the grid integration and compliance with local requirements.

The park provides green energy to 1,900 households.
