Chint Solar has officially commissioned the Ínsua solar park in Portugal for the Danish Independent Power producer Nordic Solar. The 80 hectare, 48.5 MWp solar park provides renewable energy to approximately 26,000 households.
The solar park is located near Pias, Municipality of Serpa, in the Alentejo region. It is Chint Solar’s first PV project development in Portugal and will operate for an estimated duration of at least 30 years.
Smart technology and integration into the landscape
The solar park uses panels produced by Chint Solar’s sister company Astronergy. The panels are installed on a single-axis tracker system. This smart system tracks the position of the sun, allowing more electricity to be produced in a more efficient manner. As a result, the installation can supply renewable energy to approximately 35,000 households annually.
It is to be emphasized that the solar park was developed considering all the ground and environmental limitations, its morphology and existing water resources, complying with all the requisites and good practices.
David Osório Mota, Head of Business Development Portugal at Chint Solar, comments: “I am excited that the Ínsua solar park is now operational. The project was challenging, but together with our team, partners, the local municipality, contractors and subcontractors we were able to overcome all hurdles. We have put a lot of effort into reaching this important milestone and that makes me proud.”
Bernardo Silvestre, Head of Business Development Europe at Chint Solar: “We have to act now when it comes to climate change. Ínsua is a landmark project that will produce green energy for the coming decades, contributing to and promoting the decarbonization of the Portuguese economy. We are excited to continue working on a future of sustainable and clean energy in Europe.”
The Insua solar park is developed and built for Nordic Solar:
”Ínsua is our first solar park, where we participate actively in the construction phase, and we appreciate Chint Solar as our partner on this land mark project. Chint’s technology makes it possible for us to achieve the most from the rays of sunshine. This project is an important milestone for our shareholders on our new strategy as well as the local community in Portugal on the route to decarbonization,” says CEO of Nordic Solar A/S, Nikolaj Holtet Hoff.
