Agri-PV
Agri-PV stands for “agricultural” and “photovoltaic,” also called agri-solar or agrivoltaics. It is an innovative technique that cleverly combines solar panels and agricultural activities on the same land. Instead of having to choose between agriculture or solar energy, with Agri-PV the land is used for both purposes. It is a smart, sustainable and future-proof solution that contributes to both the energy transition and a resilient agricultural sector.
Advantages of Agri-PV
Various forms of Agri-PV are conceivable, each with their own characteristics. This offers opportunities for livestock farmers, arable farmers and fruit growers alike to generate renewable energy in innovative ways while continuing existing agricultural activities.
- Efficient use of space: agricultural land is not at the expense of energy generation.
- Weatherproof crop yield: Crops are better protected from extreme weather, ensuring top yields.
- Weatherproof livestock farming: Solar panels can also provide shade and shelter for (poultry) livestock.
- Additional source of income for farmers: By leasing land for the Agri-PV installation, it creates an additional source of income.

Cultivation under modules
This is a form of Agri-PV where solar panels are installed at a certain height so that agricultural vehicles can easily drive under them and the land can still be used for keeping livestock, poultry or growing crops. It is especially suitable for field crops that do not grow quickly, such as corn, potatoes, sugar beets, onions and other low-growing crops.
Experience and innovation with Chint Solar
Combining solar energy and agriculture requires a thoughtful approach. With more than 30 completed solar parks in Europe and expertise in Agri-PV, we have extensive experience in developing smart, sustainable solutions. We design and realize projects with the landscape and business operations of the farmer in mind.

Putting Agri-PV into practice
With every innovation come challenges. How do solar panels affect crop growth? How high and how far apart should the panels be placed to allow for farming vehicles? And will chickens sit on the installation? Chint Solar therefore initialized a pilot project at a farm to gain practical insight. Our findings form the basis for future projects.
